Mount Olympus – Communing with the Gods

This Greek sojourn happened almost by accident. Via the internet, I had helped some members of a Greek walking club to visit Morocco for a walk up Djebel Toubkal and a look around Marrakech. The Greeks really enjoyed themselves (see their very lengthy slideshow), and as a return favour they invited Dick Johnson and myself over to spend a little time in Athens and to accompany the club on a Mount Olympus trip.
We had a great time – lots of Greek experiences, with good weather and an exhilarating walk up to the summit of Scala. Our joint photos are here and show the sequence, from Stavros refuge on the first night and the start of the walk from Prionia up to refuge ‘A’ then on to the top of Scala, then a festive night in the refuge with a few beers and just a little raki.
